The Astrology of Aquarius Season ✧
It’s the most wonderful time of the year – Aquarius season.
Okay, maybe as an Aqua Mercury, Saturn, and Sun, I’m biased. But the lightning-speed, revolutionary, humanitarian energy of Aquarius feels so soul-nourishing after what felt like a long, burdened Capricorn winter in my realm at least!
This year, the Sun is in tropical Aquarius from January 19 through February 18, bringing distinct focus to the ways the world – and consciousness itself – is begging for transformation for the greater good.
Let’s take a journey through the astrological and magickal events of this solar season.
January 21: Sun conjunct Pluto in Aquarius
When two planets are conjunct, they are occupying the exact same position in our sky, from the perspective of life on earth. The Sun-Pluto conjunction lasts from January 19-30, coming to a crescendo on January 21. This close-quarters meeting sets the tone for the entire Aquarius season, and illuminates the themes of the Pluto in Aquarius era. This conjunction brings light to our own personal role in the overarching unfolding of the evolution of consciousness, both inner and outer, micro and macro. January 27: Mercury enters Aquarius
Following close behind the Sun, the planet of communication and the mind enters the sign of the water bearer, encouraging us to use the alchemical power and freedom of our voice to champion the change we wish to see in the world. Mercury journeys the air sign from January 27 through February 14. No matter where Aquarius falls in your chart, this is a time to elevate your perspective and reconsider the way you will wield your words to create the life, the circumstances, and the structures that you desire.
January 29: Mercury conjunct Pluto in Aquarius
As someone who is living through a multi-year activation of Pluto on their natal Aquarius Mercury, I can personally confirm that this transit is all about activating and channeling your truth. Mercury and Pluto are conjunct from January 27 through February 2, but January 29 marks the peak of their combined energy. This is the seed bursting into sprout, and then into bloom. Allow your words to be medicine for the collective.
January 29: New Moon in Aquarius
New Moons occur when the Sun and the Moon are conjunct. The Moon goes dark. In this darkness, something new is born. This particular New Moon is holding all of this alchemical transformation in her fertile darkness. You are being summoned to your highest calling. January 30: Uranus stations direct in Taurus
This marks the end of the final Uranus Retrograde that occurs exclusively in Taurus. Come July, the planet of disruption and revolution will enter the air sign Gemini. As Uranus regains forward momentum to this end, consider what you’ve learned since Uranus entered Taurus back in 2018. How has your relationship to stability, the earth, and your body shifted? Honor this learning journey, and see what comes up as room for continued growth. We will return to the frequency of Uranus in Taurus in November, and it’s likely that the themes alive for you right now will resurface in some way as Uranus prepares to part ways with Taurus until next cycle – for many of us this means for the rest of our lives.
February 1: Imbolc
On February 1, witches across the globe celebrate Imbolc – anticipating the arrival of spring in the northern hemisphere. This is a holy day for Brigid, the Celtic goddess of the hearth, healing, fertility, and poetry. This crossquarter holiday (marking the time between the solstice and the equinox) is a time for joyous hope and celebration, and to clear out the cobwebs literally and figuratively, creating sacred space for your manifestations to come to fruition in a good way. February 4: Venus enters Aries
When the planet of love, beauty, and romance enters the first sign of the Zodiac, we fall in love with life all over again. Venus voyages through Aries from February 4 through March 27. Let yourself be awash in gratitude for the little things in life that excite and enchant you. Center yourself in your heart, and let unbridled love pour out of you. Aries is initiatory, bold, and unafraid. Allow your love story to become unburdened. Excavate the pieces of you that are jaded from the caverns of your being. Allow yourself to be held in vibrant, fresh love.
February 4: Jupiter stations direct in Gemini
Jupiter, the planet of luck, opportunity, and expansion, has been retrograding through Gemini since October 2024. As this astrological giant stations direct and begins his forward motion through our sky, abundance flows and bubbles over, by way of our community connections, exchange of ideas, and overall communicative expression. Depending on what realm of life Gemini rules in your chart, this focus and flow could appear for you in a multitude of ways. February 9: Mercury Cazimi in Aquarius
Mercury Cazimi occurs when the Sun and Mercury are exactly conjunct in the sky. The Cazimi lasts from January 27 through February 18, coming into precise alignment (and therefore peak frequency) on February 9. This transit reminds us that although everyone has something to say, there is distinct medicine in what you have to offer. There is someone out there who needs to hear your truth from your lips, even if you feel like it’s already been said, done, written about. Let your authentic voice rise and be heard on high.
February 12: Full Moon in Leo
Full Moons occur when the Sun and Moon are exactly opposite in the sky – so while the Sun lingers in Aquarius, the Moon is full in Leo. Under this lion-hearted moon, unleash your creativity. Let your authentic self run wild and free. Do something your inner child has been begging you to do. Shed some light on your innate gifts. Stand back and behold your creations with reverence. Allow yourself to be seen and held. And most importantly, as you orient to your ideal vision of the future, lead from your heart.
February 14: Mercury enters Pisces
Mercury in Pisces is channeling the divine. It opens a direct line to your highest self. When you zoom all the way out, when you see creation for exactly what it is, when you hold the perspective of the observer, the elder, the sage, what becomes clear? What enchants you? What visions spark to life in your mind’s eye? Mercury in Pisces (February 14 through March 3) is the perfect time to lean into your most valuable resource: your intuition. Do some divining. Immerse yourself in third eye frequencies. Dust off your decks, swing your pendulums, open your journals. Let the voice of your psychic awareness pour out of yourself and onto the page, into the world.
